Sam, Harriet, and Kaye Lavine Scholarship
Sam L. Lavine served as District Director of the college (then District 17) from 1968 through 1971. (At this time, the district consisted of the Superior, Ashland, and Rice Lake campuses.)
Upon Sam’s death in December 1988, a scholarship fund was established in his memory by his wife Harriet.
Harriet Lavine died December 13, 1994 and the fund was renamed the Sam and Harriet Lavine Scholarship Fund.
Kaye Lavine (Sam and Harriet’s daughter) died suddenly in March 2006. Upon the request of her brother, David, the scholarship was again renamed to the Sam, Harriet, and Kaye Lavine Scholarship Fund.
The Sam, Harriet, and Kaye Lavine Scholarship is an endowment that provides one $500 scholarship annually to a student enrolled in any program at Northwood Tech on the Superior campus.
Impact
I am a Nursing student at Northwood Tech in the second semester of the Nursing program, and I am the recipient of the $500 "Sam, Harriet, and Kaye Lavine Scholarship.” While in college, and with my hopes, dreams, and aspirations of becoming an ICU nurse, I plan to eventually become a medical missions nurse in order to travel abroad and assist various non-profit organizations to bring the type of health care that a nurse can provide to underprivileged areas of the world. The Sam, Harriet, and Kaye Lavine Scholarship will be utilized as a financial means to assist with paying for tuition. John T.
